The Flexible Banking Solution: Caterham Valley’s New Banking Hub
Caterham Valley recently welcomed a brand-new service to Croydon Road. Operated by the local Post Office, Caterham Valley’s Banking Hub is a multi-bank community hub designed to provide local residents with access to a wide range of physical services. Here’s everything you need to know about Caterham Valley’s new Banking Hub.
How does Caterham Valley’s new Banking Hub work?
The Banking Hub is a shared banking space designed to ensure continued access to everyday banking services in communities where bank branches have closed. Customers of most major UK banks can use the Hub’s cash counter for essential services, regardless of who they bank with. You do not need to wait for your bank’s designated day to access cash services.
Each bank takes turns to provide a Community Banker on specific days, offering more in-depth support such as account-specific enquiries and more detailed banking assistance. There is a private space where you can talk face-to-face about more complicated banking enquiries like payments and transfers, managing your account, and how to use online banking.
How did the Banking Hub come to be in Caterham Valley?
As Caterham Valley’s physical bank branches have closed, with Lloyds due to close permanently in March, Caterham Valley needed a new way to access physical banking.
Caterham was fortunate to meet the qualifying criteria under new FCA regulations, enabling a Banking Hub to be introduced. The Hub ensures Caterham Valley, along with surrounding towns and villages, continues to have access to cash and essential banking support.
The Banking Hub is owned by Cash Access UK and is operated by the Post Office, with Caterham Valley’s Ying Shi managing the service.

What services does the new Banking Hub offer?
The Banking Hub provides the following services:
- Withdraw cash (notes and coin)
- Deposit cash (notes and coin)
- Deposit cheques
- Pay utility bills
- Check account balance
- Collect change (registered business customers)
- A 24/7 external ATM
- Accessibility services, such as hearing loops and wheelchair access
Community Bankers also attend on designated days to help with:
- Account enquiries
- Support with online and digital banking
- General banking guidance and problem-solving
How does the Banking Hub benefit local businesses?
Local businesses can deposit their takings safely and conveniently at the Banking Hub without the need to travel elsewhere. As the Hub is a designated banking-only service, it is efficient, secure, and well-suited to business needs.
This saves time, reduces risk, and supports smooth day-to-day operations. The Banking Hub also helps maintain footfall in the town centre, supporting the local economy and keeping essential services within the community.
Is there potential for other banks to be represented in the Banking Hub?
Currently, the Caterham Banking Hub hosts:
- Tuesday: Barclays
- Wednesday: NatWest
- Thursday: Lloyds Bank
Hopefully additional high-street banks will join the service on Mondays and Fridays. The operators welcome feedback from local residents and businesses, who are encouraged to let their banks know that there are available days to participate at the Hub.
