Caterham Valley Celebrates: The Long-Awaited Lidl Opens!

Yesterday marked a milestone for Caterham Valley as Lidl officially opened its doors, bringing fresh energy to a site that has stood empty for 25 years.

For those unfamiliar with the site’s past, it was once home to the Rose and Young garage, which had a long and complex history. Now, it has been transformed into a vibrant mixed-use development.

Clarian Homes has provided much-needed housing on the upper levels with 48 apartments, while Lidl occupies the ground floor – set above a 2.5 storey basement car park with 60 spaces reserved for Lidl customers.

Sue McGeown, Manager of Caterham Valley BID, expressed her excitement about the opening: “This is a fantastic moment for Caterham Valley. The opening of Lidl and the redevelopment of this site are a testament to the resilience and vision of our community. It’s wonderful to see this space finally come alive and provide both homes and amenities that will benefit everyone in the area.”

The opening of Lidl marks a new chapter for the community, transforming a long-vacant site into a space that now provides jobs, convenient shopping and housing. It’s a significant step forward for Caterham Valley as the area continues to develop and thrive.
