Sharlene’s journey into the world of curtains and blinds began at the age of 16, working as a Saturday girl in a similar store where her mum was employed. Growing up amidst fabrics and designs, she developed a deep love of the industry. Fast forward 20 years, and Sharlene is now the proud owner of C&B, a dream nurtured through years of experience and dedication.

For Sharlene, the most rewarding aspect of her business isn’t just the curated selection of modern, geometric prints or the soft furnishings that adorn the shelves. It’s the people. “I love my job, so don’t see things as a challenge. I find it very rewarding getting to know my customers; I’m a people person,” she shares warmly. Her open-door policy extends beyond business, welcoming anyone in for a chat and a hot drink, making her store more than just a retail space.

Sharlene’s eye for design goes beyond the latest trends. She draws inspiration from various sources, including research, home shows, industry contacts, and, most importantly, her customers. “Customers come in with ideas, so it also involves working to the customers’ individual tastes and not necessarily what is on trend,” she notes.

Speaking of trends, Sharlene is currently excited about the elegance that wall panelling brings to interiors. Looking to the future, she envisions C&B growing beyond its current offerings. “We are starting small but hoping to grow and introduce more products such as wall panelling, haberdashery, classes, etc. We want to be a one-stop shop for home décor and interiors,” she shares eagerly.

The success of C&B is not just Sharlene’s triumph; it’s a family project. From her supportive husband to her entire family, they’ve all played an important role in the journey. Sharlene acknowledges with gratitude that her whole family pitched in on helping to get the store ready for opening.

We asked Sharlene what her dream client installation would be? A modern build with floor-to-ceiling windows begging for a touch of life and inspiration. It’s this passion that fuels her free home consults and measuring services, ensuring that every client receives personalised attention and advice on home furnishings.
