Caterham Valley gets a taste of Japan

Caterham Valley’s vibrant food scene continues to evolve with the introduction of two new Japanese restaurants. Following the recent arrival of Takusan on Croydon Road, foodies have another reason to get excited, with Suzaku Izakaya opening on Godstone Road on 4th October.

Whether you’re after a quick bite to eat, a dinner with friends or family, or something to take away, Caterham Valley is fast becoming the go-to destination for delicious Japanese cuisine.

Takusan

Already open at 8 Croydon Road, Takusan has brought its Japanese canteen concept to Caterham, following its successes in Victoria and Oxted.

The restaurant serves fresh, high-quality Japanese food to eat in or take away, with food and drinks available throughout the day. Its menu combines comforting hot dishes with freshly prepared sushi.

If you’re a fan of Japanese classics, you’ll find favourites including ramen, katsu curry, donburi, yakisoba and hot pots, alongside a wide selection of sushi, sashimi, nigiri and maki. There are also plenty of sides and smaller dishes, from gyoza and karaage to edamame and wakame salad.

Takusan also places an emphasis on fresh ingredients and sustainability, with its fish sustainably sourced and all sushi prepared to order.

Suzaku Izakaya

On 4th October, Suzaku Izakaya will officially open its doors on Godstone Road, bringing a different Japanese dining experience to Caterham Valley.

Suzaku Izakaya is brought to Caterham by the team behind the popular Toriton Izakaya in Coulsdon, with a menu centred around the traditions of Japanese izakaya dining. For those unfamiliar with the term, an izakaya is a Japanese-style restaurant and drinking establishment where dishes are designed to be enjoyed together and shared. That makes Suzaku a particularly exciting prospect for meals with friends and family, with plenty of opportunities to try a selection of dishes.

The menu is set to celebrate Japanese craftsmanship, from hand-crafted sushi and sashimi to smoky robata and grilled specialities. With its focus on sharing and savouring different dishes, Suzaku promises to bring something a little different to Caterham’s growing restaurant scene.
