The Best Countryside Walks Near Caterham Valley
Here in Caterham Valley, we’re lucky to be surrounded by the beautiful Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and North Downs countryside. Both offer plenty of spectacular views, as well as a range of long and short walks in the Surrey countryside.
Before you set off, Caterham Valley has plenty of wonderful independent cafes for light bites and specialist coffees. Whether you want a fun day out or a stroll to stretch your legs, we’ve put together a list of the best countryside walks near Caterham Valley:

Timber Hill Recreation Ground
We’re starting small with a short Caterham Valley stroll. It’s well-known to local Caterham residents, but a pleasant place to stretch your legs nonetheless. Recently refurbished, the Timber Hill Recreation Ground is only minutes from our town centre via Timber Hill Road, with views of St John’s Church and the surrounding area. There is a children’s play area, seasonal flower displays, benches for a sandwich lunch break, and plenty of room for picnics! Before you come, stop off at Waitrose, Morrisons, Lidl, or our lovely Italian deli Portovenere, for picky bits and summer drinks.

Caterham Valley Station Circular Walk
This six-mile Surrey stroll includes a popular stretch of the North Downs that runs just south of Caterham Valley, with spectacular panoramic views of the local countryside. Beginning and ending at Caterham station, this easy circular walk takes you past horse paddocks, farmland, and a historic county inn, The Harrow. When you arrive back at Caterham Station, enjoy a well-earned drink or bite in one of Caterham Valley’s pubs, restaurants or coffee shops.

Caterham Valley to Godstone via Divers Cove
Beginning in Caterham Valley, this moderate 3-hour walk will take you all the way to Godstone Farm. Enjoy a diverse range of landscapes, including country towns, farmland and woodland trails, with a delightful track through the East Reservoir Nature Reserve. Partway through, you can even pause for some wild swimming at the picturesque Divers Cove!

Caterham Valley to Dorking
A scenic trail through the Surrey Hills and countryside which takes you from Caterham Valley station to Dorking. Explore Alderstead Heath, Coldroast Shaw and Lower Kingswood before hopping stepping stones across a gentle river to take in the panoramic views from atop Box Hill. This is one of the harder walks on our list, estimated to take around 7-8 hours – the perfect day out for experienced trekkers.

North Downs Way National Trail
Caterham Valley is a gateway to the North Downs Way National Trail. This famous 153-mile trail from Farnham to Dover promises spectacular scenery, picturesque villages and glorious countryside. There are plenty of short and medium walks from Caterham which explore our local section of the North Downs Way. Set out and explore Reigate Hill, Godstone Vineyards, Botley Hill, Titsey Place and many more!
