Countryside story trail comes to Caterham Valley for Colour Caterham
Caterham Valley is embracing all the colours of the surrounding countryside for Colour Caterham 2021 this summer, by creating vibrant artworks throughout the town to form a nature trail with a difference.
Organised by Caterham Business Improvement District (Caterham BID – known as Caterham Valley For You), the pictorial trail, which runs until Saturday July 31 and starts at Clarks Shoes in Church Walk Shopping Centre, tells the story of a group of local woodland friends setting off for a picnic, and follows their adventures along the way.
Free family fun
“We’re well known in Caterham Valley for our trails – people really love them,” says Andrew Browne, Chairman of Caterham BID.
“After a break due to the pandemic, we’re delighted to be laying on this free activity, which is our way of saying thank you to the community for their loyalty, and really putting a smile on everyone’s faces.
“Although it’s very much a family trail, we’ve made sure there’s plenty to amuse people of all ages, and there are educational elements, too.”
Fancy dress optional
Youngsters are encouraged to dress up as their favourite woodland animals and bring along cuddly toys to join in the fun with characters such as Owlbert the owl, Brian the badger, Bella the bee and Cuddles the hedgehog.
There will be prizes for the best costumes, with selfie spots along the route to capture pictures around the town (don’t forget to share your photos on the Caterham Valley For You Facebook page), and also for the winners of a quiz at the end of the trail.
Colourful window displays
Many of the town’s businesses have got involved in the project by offering up their windows to be painted by a professional artist with scenes featuring the woodland friends, whilst others are joining in with themed displays for Colour Caterham.
And the fun continues at Caterham Valley Library, where you’ll find plenty of nature and wildlife books ready to be discovered.
“Caterham Valley is surrounded by nature and our website includes suggestions for walks which can start from Caterham Station,” adds Andrew Browne.
“We’re very fortunate that Caterham is surrounded by greenery, so it seems a natural step to be bringing the countryside right into town so it can be enjoyed by all visitors to the town centre.”
