Summer Vibes set to make Caterham Valley sizzle
Down in the Valley, summer vibes are set to sweep through the town as businesses gear up for the warmer months with refreshing drinks and gelato, cool events and lashings of summer style.
Here are just a few of the ways you can make the most of summer in Caterham Valley, and we’ll be updating this page and our social media throughout June and July with more events and offers. Watch this space…
Style & beauty
If you’re looking to get your festival-style flowing, then Bow Butterfly on Godstone Road is a must visit. With so many desirable designs in stock, this cool little boutique will have you effortlessly chic and ready to watch your favourite bands with an aperol spritz in hand in no time.
Alternatively, with Dorothy Perkins, Clarks and Ratio all donning their summer wardrobes, don’t forget to take a stroll through Church Walk Shopping Centre too.
From laid back, lightweight canvas styles worthy of weekend adventures to boat shoes for special occasions and covetable new season sandals, Clarks are currently offering 20% off selected styles.
Thinking about a sleek new look to capture those summer vibes, well make sure to book an appointment at one of our town’s top barbers or hair salons. With David Rae, Touché, Dtail, Starkuts, Jones the Hairdresser, Time Hair & Beauty, Ben’s, Edi’s and Hope’s to choose from, you’re certainly not short for options here in Caterham Valley.
Adding a little extra sparkle to the Valley since 1921, JJ Browne & Son have a number of offers to celebrate Summer Vibes, including a 15% discount off any row of cultured pearls purchased in June – as pearl is the birthstone for the month.
To top it all off, it’s all about the shades right? Whether you’re looking for designer frames or prescription lenses, stroll along to Specsavers, Rawlings Opticians or Vitaleyes to find your perfect pair of sunglasses.
Food & drink
Set to celebrate their first birthday in August, Sweet and Savoury Waffles change their gelato offering every fortnight to make sure you’ve always got new and exciting flavours to pick from. As their name suggests, they also have a savoury menu that’s just as tempting through the summer months.
For a further cooling twist, enjoy ice cold drinks at Caffe Bambino; Coughlans Bakery’s new summer gelato offering; a beer in the garden at The William Garland; cocktails at Crown and Pepper; and the latest concoctions (such as cold brew coffee or frostinos) from Costa. This, of course, is just the tip of the ice cube.
Set to make an appearance at Caterham Food Festival on Sunday June 10, Casa Lola has long been bringing a vibrant Spanish atmosphere to Caterham Valley and remains a perfect destination for tapas and a glass of rioja or two.
On the weekend of Sunday June 24, a visit to Waitrose or Morrisons is a must, so that you can pack up picnic goodies and join friends and families at Timber Hill recreation ground for an afternoon of fun and games sponsored by Caterham Valley Parish Council.
Homes & gardens
Caterham & District Horticultural Society lead a Gardeners’ Question Time-style discussion for green-fingered Caterham residents at Caterham Valley Library on Saturday June 2.
Suitably inspired by their gardening knowledge and ready to recreate RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in your own garden, a visit to Moda Furnishings for garden furniture that matches the quality of your horticultural efforts is a must.
To add some vibrancy to your new garden set (or perhaps to bring some summer indoors), pop in to see the lovely team at Floral Gallery on Station Avenue. It’s nearly impossible to walk into their flower shop and leave without a smile on your face.
As an added bonus, they are running their Lonely Bouquet initiative again on Saturday June 9 (keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates). For the uninitiated, Floral Gallery place jam jars full of flowers around the town ready for people to take home or give to a friend. It’s such a lovely idea.
Away from nature for a second, there’s a brand new addition to Caterham Valley…
Shard Solutions could be just what you’re looking for if you’re hoping to make your home the go to address among your friends. They only opened a few weeks ago but, as experts in kitting out homes with the latest bespoke doors, windows and conservatories, it’s sure to be a busy summer for them.
While everyone is looking to the outdoors, perhaps it’s the perfect time to freshen up indoors and Magnet Kitchens will be launching their summer sale at the start of July.
And you can dive right in at The Bathing Machine who are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and are all geared up to design and create the bathroom of your dreams. Once the sun’s gone down, the garden party revellers have left and the fire pit has burnt out, nothing quite beats a cool shower before bed.
Health & fitness
From their gym in the cool basement below the Moda Furnishings shop on Godstone Road, Surrey Strength and Performance’s highly experienced team of coaches use science driven methods to train everyone from normal people to elite athletes. They are offering a one week trial for £20 this summer, where people can try unlimited small group personal training sessions for seven days.
Did you know that Caterham Dance School hosts drop in ballroom and Latin classes every Friday night, from 8pm to 8.45pm, at their Croydon Road studio. Perfect for beginners and improvers, the sessions are then followed by a fun social practice. You’ll be Strictly Come Dancing ready in no time and hot to trot through the summer months.
With the Football World Cup kicking off on Thursday June 14, Church Walk Shopping Centre will be hosting a football-themed family bunting workshop on Saturday June 23, 11am to 2pm. While you’re there, you can pop into Sports Direct to take advantage of their football boots and equipment.
Did you know that it’s national Bike Week from Saturday June 9 to Sunday June 17? If you need your bicycle looking at or are looking to pick up a new one for you or your children, then pop along to the friendly folk at Motor World on Croydon Road. They are offering 10% off all bikes in June and also have a bike doctor service.
Never forget that the North Downs Way and Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are right on the doorstep of Caterham Valley and are the perfect place for last ditch training efforts for the Waller Pain hill climb on Father’s Day, Sunday June 17. Rather you, than us!
Art & music
Life’s a beach at Caterham Galleries, where palm trees and sand are helping to decorate their always colourful window displays. They’ve got some great offers running during Summer Vibes too, with the chance to win an original artwork and money off coloured picture frames.
The piano is back at Church Walk Shopping Centre – don’t be shy, pop along and play at any time. In need of inspiration for British summer songs? We’re All Going On A Summer Holiday… In the Summertime… Singing In the Rain…
Travel & holidays
And, if you are looking to fly off to somewhere exotic in search of sandy beaches and seafront cocktail bars, then you’ll find TUI travel agents at Church Walk. They always have fantastic sun-drenched deals floating around, whether you’re looking for some family-fun with the kids or looking to get away from it all at a romantic retreat.
